About CDS:
National Institute for the Locomotor Disability established Centre for Disabilities Studies (CDS) within the premises of Mizoram Central University with due approval of DePwD, MSJ&E (79th EC & 85th EC). A budget of amounting Rs890 lakh was approved in 89th EC to construct a building for the centre and the construction of the building was completed within time by CPWD. The center has already been inaugurated on 5th July 2018 by Hon’ble chief Minister of Mizoram and Minister of State, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. The major objective of the center is to create a central database of Disability informatics and resource of all information including treatment/service facilities, 24X7 helpline, legislation/Acts, facilities, schemes related to PwDs in State/Central and all over the world. Center already initiated to start three long term program and PhD in Disabilities Studies under affiliation of Mizoram Central University and Rehab Council of India.Centre also intends to start calendar of short term course/awareness program and research projects centering North East in particular.
Centre for Disability Studies (CDS) will act as an interdisciplinary Centre for Research, teaching, training & practice that aims to develop a better understanding of disability & practice in the field. This includes looking at the nature of the disability, the impact of disability on people and their environment and how services can meet the needs and maximize the potential of the people with disabilities and their families in order to actualize the goal of empowerment. CDS in the university campus will open up a new area of study for the students of NE Region regarding disability problems, issues and rehabilitation etc. to build up their career in this new field.
